Spreading Joy At Christmas

Christmas Crackers
Supplying Tom Smith Christmas Crackers To Romania & Beyond

We are Adriana & Steve, an Anglo-Romanian couple who live in Iasi, Romania.

Pocnitori Festive came about in 2020 after we brought some Tom Smith Christmas Crackers over from the UK for Christmas Photo Sessions we were hosting. The crackers went down a treat, and Adriana set up a facebook page so other Romanians could discover the joy of this old English tradition.

We then set up this little site so that anyone looking for some extra Festive Fun, including British Expats who've been missing out, could easily access quality crackers, shipped from within Romania avoiding those post-Brexit import hassles & costs (bah humbug).

We have more of some styles than others, so grab them while you can. If you have any questions please contact us using the 'Let's Chat!' button or the Contact Us form on our home page and we'll be more than happy to help.

THE HISTORY OF TOM SMITH CHRISTMAS CRACKERS

Thomas Smith was a baker and confectioner in London who, during a visit to Paris in 1847, discovered the 'bon bon' sugared almond, delicately wrapped in a twist of tissue paper, an idea that he took back to London and which became very popular, particularly at Christmas.

To add his own 'twist' to it he included a love message within the wrapper, but over the years, to stay one step ahead of copy-cat competitors, Tom Smith replaced the almond with toys, trinkets and jewelery.

In 1850, while sitting by the fire, the sound of a log cracking inspired Tom to create a 'snap' mechanism that would create a 'pop' as the bob-bon wrapping was pulled open, inventing the 'cracker' as we know it today.

Tom Smith was succeeded by his sons Tom, Walter and Henry and it was they who later introduced more festive colours and themes for the crackers and boxes, a variety of toys, jokes & mottos, and the paper hats that we know and love for creating that extra element of fun at the Christmas table.

Tom Smith hold Royal Warrants for the supply of Christmas Crackers to the British Royal Family and to this day they continue to create the highest quality Christmas Crackers in legacy of the great Thomas Smith.
